Soil Health Rally

Join Rural Action and partners to learn about soil health in Ohio and hear from local and state speakers. Get fired up for soil health by learning about its role in food production, watershed health, and climate mitigation. Visit Rural Action at tables around the Athens Courthouse steps before and after the speakers to enjoy demos and learn more in-depth. Attendees will learn about the past, present, and future of soil health conservation in Ohio and discover actionable steps they can take in their own backyards.

Registration not required.

A free sign making party will be held at the Athens Ohio MakerSpace on November 7 from 5-7 p.m., for those interested in creating signs and posters ahead of the rally.

  • 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. | Info tables set up around the Athens County Municipal Court steps

    12:30 - 1:30 p.m. | Speakers on the steps of the courthouse

  • Participating organizations include Rural Action, SORT, Ohio Ecological Food & Farm Association (OEFFA), OSU Extension, Community Food Initiatives, Roll Run Farm, Sierra Student Coalition, and Ohio Environmental Council.

    Featured speakers will include Representative Juanita Brent, OEFFA Grassroots Policy Organizer Lauren Hirtle, County Commissioner and farmer Chris Chmiel, local producer Lindsay Klaunig of Trouvaille Farm, and Jay Brandt of Brandt Family Farm, among others.

  • This event will be held outdoors on the sidewalk. Standing will be required and some walking to access the event. Parking in uptown Athens is available on streets or in the municipal parking garage immediately across Court Street from the location.
