Join Rust Belt Riders Composting to take soil samples at an urban learning center. Attendees will learn how to take soil samples at their homes or gardens, and interpret soil test results.

Urban gardeners face extra challenges from anthropogenic soil and pollution, but everyone and everywhere deserves to have good soil health and the ability to grow food! This event will help people get thinking and doing to grow their own food effectively and safely.

  • 3-3:10 p.m. | Arrival

    3:10-3:40 p.m. | Classroom intro - what is soil, soil texture shake, soil test sample, soil nutrients - air water & rocks, pH, heavy metals

    3:40-4 p.m. | Go outside, take soil samples, prep for mailing to lab

    4-4:30 p.m. | Q&A time
